The sample is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. This sampler features five questions from Sets 1 & 2 of my English Speaking & Writing Prompts. They’re suitable for intermediate to advanced intermediate English Language Learning students. Speaking and writing are language skills that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is really beneficial. The questions in the sets are differentiated, addressing a broad range of ability, which aim to progress all learners. Tenses include present, future, near future, perfect and conditional. Question formats are likewise varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in English. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. The prompts are really versatile too, specifically with a focus on speaking and writing. There’s a 2-page prompts master list, which is useful as a general reference resource, and we also use it for reading aloud and pronunciation practice, discussing in what ways we might adapt and amend the questions to create new prompts. The prompts broadly address the following themes: college life & study; future plans; information technology; where I live; social & environmental issues; North America/UK & travel; social activity & daily life. I always remind my students that they do not have to ‘tell the truth’ in their responses! The important thing is to answer question correctly, appropriately and creatively. I encourage them to use the questions themselves as a frame of reference for their responses, and also when creating new prompts for each other, which is a really popular and successful activity too. It’s also great for promoting discussion about***Christmas traditions and practices in Germany, and other German-speaking countries***, comparing them to other Christmas customs with which students are familiar. ENGLISH VERBS LIST FOR FRENCH SPEAKERS FREEBIE #2

(2)
ANGLAIS LANGUE SECONDE ESL EFL ENGLISH COMMON VERBS FOR FRENCH-SPEAKING LEARNERS OF ENGLISH English language verb reference resource for French-speaking students focusing on high-frequency English verbs. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference, either in class or at home. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. This list is a second collection of 25 high-frequency English verbs that students will meet in the beginning to intermediate stages of English learning programs. They are common English verbs, so they will see, hear and use the verbs regularly in daily life. They include regular and irregular verbs, and are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize English verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in French - at that point they can move on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning 25 verbs all at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing English verb vocabulary - embedding the verbs into long-term memory will come through frequent usage. There are two alphabetical lists - one English-French, and one French-English, as I’ve found that beginner language students prefer to have both as a reference resource. There are two backgrounds to choose from - England flag (which looks good as grammar / vocabulary display), and black wave - students tell me that this makes vocab lists more visually appealing, which is really useful when they’ve got a lot of vocab to work through and learn. SPANISH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCH FREEBIE

SPANISH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCH FREEBIE Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie Spanish Christmas word search features fourteen common Spanish Christmas words, which helps to develop students’ awareness of some Spanish Christmas vocabulary and customs, such as la Nochebuena and el turrón. I use this as a prompt to stimulate discussion about Spanish Christmas practices and traditions, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too. There is an answer key for each word search, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are absolutely essential for me, as they provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, help them develop more independence in their learning, and they genuinely enjoy ‘correcting’ each others’ work - additionally, they’re a great teacher time-saver, which is always a bonus! The word searches are in landscape format, as this mirrors the common direction of reading from left to right for speakers of English as a first or home language, facilitating their engagement with the activity. It works well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. There are 20 common French Christmas words with pictures that I’ve found ideal for children learning French. Perfect for developing German language skills in general, as well as for practicing and revising numbers 0-31 in German - there are 12 differentiated questions, answer key and recording sheet. I’ve found that Christmas is a great time to revisit language we started with a couple of months before, and these are ideal for that. The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling, and really help students develop more independence in their learning, moving away from more teacher-led tasks and activities. Challenge cards are really versatile too - we use them not only when we’re focusing on the target vocab, but throughout the year as starters and refreshers. The goal is not simply to learn and practice how to count in German, but also to enjoy working with language, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and are great for honing numeracy skills too - especially if calculators are not allowed. There is a range of Christmas-theme images as visual clues for learners, Knecht Ruprecht and Weihnachtsmann - most of the questions are in German, so it’s really important to give learners appropriate support, and they’re great for stimulating discussion about German Christmas traditions and vocabulary. ENGLISH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES #2

ESL EFL ENGLISH CHRISTMAS WORKSHEETS FOR CHILDREN Word searches a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practicing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features five differentiated word searches, focusing on English Christmas words, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful multi-skill language learning opportunity - working on reading, writing, spelling, common high-frequency vocabulary and language skills in general. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. For additional consolidation, they also rewrite each word in the word column. There are also five question and answer key grid templates for learners to create their own searches for each other — this is a really popular activity, and I’ve found that my learners often like to create grids for family at home too. The templates enable learners to apply their language practically and creatively, which is really important at this stage of language development. I encourage my learners to include other Christmas words that aren’t included in the grids. We also discuss Christmas traditions and practices in our home and other countries, and this gives an additional opportunity to add words and phrases they can use in their own word searches. There is an answer key for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it, For me, answer keys are essential, as they not only provide learners with an additional opportunity to engage with language, but they also help them develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver - a real bonus! The word searches are in landscape format, mirroring the direction of reading and writing in English from left to right, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. There is a single grid per 8.5 x 11 (A4) sheet, which allows for a decent font size in the grid - I like to ensure that text is accessible to all learners - and at this stage of their learning, it’s absolutely essential that language looks accessible and manageable. Have a look at this freebie English Numbers 0-10 word search - it’s the same format as these word searches, and you can see if they will suit your learners: NUMBERS 0-10 IN ENGLISH : WORD SEARCH FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/esl-english-numbers-0-10-word-search-freebie-12296067 The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. LATIN ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS

(0)
LATIN FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER LATIN ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS These Latin animals flashcards / display posters create a fabulous Latin look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote Latin as a real language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of Latin. They introduce learners to a range of animals in Latin from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarise themselves with how Latin words ‘look’, and how they are represented in the written form. My younger Latin students really love the animals flashcards / posters, and when we look for cognates and near-cognates, they really like to compare the Latin and English words. I’ve found that they also help very young children develop their growing understanding of the animal kingdom. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. There are 20 masculine, feminine and neuter animals. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as ursus and lupus. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from their first language, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, which I’ve found to be really useful for both current and later learning. The animals are: ***bear : bee : bird : butterfly : cat : dog : fish : fox : frog : horse : kangaroo : monkey : mouse : owl : parrot : rabbit : spider : squirrel : turtle / tortoise : wolf *** There are two sets of 20 9.5x11 (A4) portrait posters: one with a colour background, the second with an animal footprint background, so 40 posters in total. I always laminate my posters / flashcards as they hang a lot better, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last for years! ENGLISH VEGETABLES I HAVE WHO HAS

ESL EFL ENGLISH VEGETABLES ACTIVITIES a lively & communicative whole-group language learning game, perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing a range of vegetables in English, ideal for advanced beginner English into intermediate English students. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. I point out particular phonemes and sounds, such as the soft c in lettuce compared to the hard c in carrot, and the addition of n to a when preceding a noun starting with a vowel, such as an aubergine for example. The aim of the game is to create an English sentence chain as quickly as possible. There are 28 vegetables featured in the game: artichoke; asparagus; aubergine; green beans; beetroot; broccoli; Brussels sprout; cabbage; carrot; cauliflower; celery; cucumber; garlic; leek; lettuce; mushroom; onion; peas; green pepper; red pepper; yellow pepper; potato; sweet potato; radish; spinach; sweetcorn; tomato; zucchini There is implicit input on grammatical concepts such as the lack of adjectival agreement and gender, and position of adjectives, which are often entirely new concepts for many ESL/EFL learners. Nouns feature definite, indefinite and partitive articles too. This is a very successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary - it is actually so much more! The question card template provides an additional learning activity, with students***applying their developing English language knowledge creatively and practically***, which is an essential element of successful language learning. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed in any way outside your own classroom. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. This is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for regular use in the run-up to Christmas. It’s great to learn some French Christmas vocabulary, though I don’t expect my learners to learn all the words necessarily - it’s equally important to introduce learners to different traditions and practices through the images, and develop their general French language skills confidently and happily. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. Learners walk around, talking to each other and working together to create the chain. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. The aim of the game is to create an alphabetical word chain - this can either be a ‘human’ chain, though I prefer to have learners work together to create an alphabetical line on a table, or even on the floor. There are 32 French Christmas words, arranged alphabetically. The first and last cards have J’ai la première carte and J’ai la dernière carte written on them. If you have fewer than thirty-two learners in your group, randomly select several to have more than one card. Learners love it when you play too! The words are all definite article, masculine and feminine, with singular and plural - this also offers a useful opportunity to talk about grammatical concepts if your learners are at that particular stage. Try to laminate the cards if you can - they’re far more learner-friendly, and they do last for absolutely years! Learners can also apply their language skills very practically (and artistically!) by creating their own cards on the template. We tend to play against a timer, often in teams (you’ll need a couple of sets for this) - learners really enjoy trying to beat their own record! Ideal for Primary French Immersion French and beginner French My students love to do these word searches around Christmas time - we do them several times in the run up to Christmas - they really are great for developing reading, writing and spelling in French - and engaging with French Christmas vocabulary too. There are 30 French Christmas words, which helps them to develop awareness of some Francophone Christmas traditions and figures, such as Saint Nicolas and Père Fouettard. I also use this as a prompt to stimulate discussion about French Christmas practices and customs, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too. Word searches are really easily differentiated: there are 5 French to French grids, as well as an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. There are also 5 English to French grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the French equivalent in the grid - they also have to complete the French word list on each page for extra spelling and vocabulary practice. I always give answer keys to my word searches - that works really well in terms of helping students work and learn independently together without me, and gives them even more opportunity to engage with French. There’s a reference list of all the French Christmas words too - this is a really useful support resource to ensure all learners can do the searches. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared, or distributed in any way outside your own classroom. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. These German Christmas word searches are a real winner - the Christmas-theme is always a great motivator. There are 33 German Christmas words, and I’ve chosen a selection of more generic Christmas words, and also some which are very German-specific, such as Sankt Nikolaus and Knecht Ruprecht. Students shouldn’t attempt to learn all the vocabulary at once, as the objective of the word searches is to engage with German Christmas vocabulary, to really focus on the individual words, genders and articles, and to have lots of practice at general recall, writing and spelling. The German Christmas vocabulary list is ideal as a long-term reference resource, and really useful for students when they are working more creatively and independently, for example***German Christmas reading comprehension, German Christmas writing activities*** and so on. There is an increasing challenge through the grids, and the differentiation does ensure that all students are challenged. There are 5 German to German grids, with a vocabulary list to complete for additional consolidation. There are also 5 English to German grids, also with a vocabulary list to complete, which is a great way to really work on students’ recall and spelling. Students can identify the level of challenge by the increasing size of the grid, number of words to search for, and the direction the words appear in, which they can see by the direction of the arrows at the top of the grids. I’ve put a couple of extra challenges in too, to encourage students to look really carefully at the words - for example, they may have to find candles and work out what that is in German - only the prompt die Adventskerze appears in the reference list. Answer keys are essential in my view, and I always give them to students. Not only are they a great teacher-time saver, they give students an additional opportunity to engage with language, and help them develop more independence in their learning. If you can, laminate the answer keys, and distribute amongst small groups of students during classtime - they will definitely last for years. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. I have, Who has… ? Ich habe… Wer hat… ? is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for honing language skills during the Christmas period in school. It’s great to learn some German Christmas vocabulary, though I don’t expect my students to learn all 32 words necessarily - but it’s equally important to introduce them to German Christmas traditions and practices through the images and words, and the game certainly promotes discussion about Christmas in Germany and German-speaking countries in particular, and Christmas around the World in general. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. Students walk around, talking to each other and working together to create the chain. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. The target vocab focuses on the definite article, masculine, feminine and neuter, with both singular and plural - this also offers a useful opportunity to talk about grammatical concepts if your students are at that particular stage, particularly how the singular der changes to den when it is a direct object, which is great for consolidating learning about the accusative case. Try to laminate the cards if you can - they’re far more learner-friendly, and they do last for absolutely years! Students can also apply their language skills very practically (and artistically!) by creating their own cards on the template, in random rather than alphabetical order. We tend to play against a timer, often in teams each with a German Christmas team name, (you’ll need a couple of sets for this) - my students really enjoy trying to beat their own record! Get the most from the game by playing as often as you can during the Christmas season. Sopas de letras are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 33 Spanish Christmas words, which I also use as a prompt to stimulate discussion about Spanish Christmas practices and customs, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too. There are 5 Spanish to Spanish grids, where students are prompted with the Spanish words, and look for them in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test! There are also 5 English to Spanish grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Spanish equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing and spelling in Spanish, they also complete the Spanish word list on each page. Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. There is an answer key for each word search, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are absolutely essential for me, as they provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, help them develop more independence in their learning. There’s a Spanish-English Christmas vocabulary reference sheet - you can either laminate this to share around small groups of students, or give one to each student to stick into their learning workbooks as a general reference resource. Students will have to look carefully at some of the words they’re looking for, as they may appear slightly differently - for example, they may have to find the gifts and work out what that is in Spanish - only the prompt the gift appears in the reference list. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. These French Christmas Numbers 0-31 task cards are perfect for French Christmas lessons, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. I’ve found that lessons around the Christmas period are a great time for revisiting and practicing language and structures we’ve looked at over the semester. The questions are entirely in French, and students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their developing knowledge of French in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in French in general, and certainly in French numbers and French Christmas vocabulary in particular. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on French Numbers 0-31, but also as a starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn the target vocabulary in French, but also to enjoy working with French, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions range in complexity and challenge, not only in terms of calculation, but also in terms of the level of French - they are definitely aimed at advanced beginner French learners, rather than new or recent beginners. Most learners will be able to infer meaning from context / images, which have a real French Christmas theme, such as la bûche de Noël and Père Fouettard, with vocabulary and structures repeated throughout, giving learners a chance to familiarize themselves really well with them. Nonetheless, it can be useful to read through the questions with the whole class first to check everyone is able to access the language, and therefore the activity, successfully. Students really do benefit in terms of language learning if they have several opportunities to work with the cards, rather than simply working with them in a single lesson. 36 differentiated question cards answer recording sheet answer key 4 question cards template Have a browse in my store for more French Christmas activities, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning materials, with dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies too!
